Welcome to SMART

The aim of the SMART project is to study the mechanisms that shape social media and their impact on society, and try to respond to the key challenges posed by the increasingly broad and diverse community of stakeholders interested in this topic, including researchers, policy makers, regulators, journalists, media companies (traditional and new), industry, civil society organisations and citizens.

As a consortium we represent leading academic experts from computer science, complex systems studies and social sciences; experts in platform building, social innovation, evidence-based policy making and citizen engagement and participation, with a long experience in working with and defining the changing media environment. The reason for this set-up is to ensure that the study is multidisciplinary and intersectoral in its approach from the beginning, in order to ensure that the four objectives as set-out by the call for tender be delivered.


SMART featured on Italy’s national television

SMART was featured on #CODICE, a TV program on RAI1, Italy’s national television channel that deals with digital cultures and innovation, and which is the special edition of the channel’s primetime news program.
